Last Friday, the students reached their class goal of 120 paw tickets!  They have the bobcat until another class reaches their goal.  They are doing a great job  following the Four R’s!

Book orders are due on Thursday.  You can send the order in with your child or you can order on the Scholastic site.  Please remember to make checks out to Scholastic.

This week we will be starting a unit on balance and motion.  Students will be exploring different ways objects move.  We will be doing many hands on investigations to help us learn about balance and motion.  I sent a letter home today with some information on this unit.

I am receiving many homework assignments without names.  Please remind your child to write their name on their work.

Students will be dismissed at 11:30 on Wednesday.

Have a great week!

Please remember to return your conference sign up sheet as soon as possible.  I look forward to meeting with you and discussing your child’s progress.   They are doing some great work this year!

There will not be spelling tests this week due to the short week of school.  This week we will watch our last Scholastic video about the Pilgrims and Wampanoags.  The videos we watched were informative and gave the students an idea of what life was like long ago.  Ask your child about the boats the Wampanoags made,  the houses they lived in, or how they got their food.

Conferences will be held in December.  I will be sending sign up sheets home soon.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Last week, the first and second graders worked together to write Halloween stories. They had to come up with a plan before they wrote their stories. The second graders were responsible for writing the stories. Each group did a great job working together.

We finished our pumpkin investigations this week. They enjoyed making predictions and  doing the investigations.

We started our Thanksgiving unit in Social Studies. This will continue over the next couple weeks.

Please remember to sign and return your child’s progress report.  There is no school  on October 21st.  Spelling tests will be on Thursday this week.

Next week we will be doing some pumpkin investigations.  The students helped me plan the investigations.

“Do pumpkins float?”

Will a pumpkin with holes in it float?”

Will a small/big pumpkin float?”

Second graders are going to be working with the kindergarten students once a week for Reading Buddies.  This week they read a short chapter book about Halloween.

We will have a special afternoon snack on Halloween.

Musicians from the Vermont Symphony Orchestra performed for the students today.   They seemed to really enjoy listening to the harp and flute.

Book orders are due on Thursday.  You can send your order to school or place your order on the Scholastic site.  For every order placed, I earn bonus points.  I use the bonus points to order books for the classroom.

Second graders are already into their spelling program.  I am letting the first graders settle in before beginning the spelling program.  We have been reviewing letter sounds  and playing games with letters and sounds.   Students are involved in hands on activities that  reinforce  skills being taught.

In Four Winds, we are studying insects.  Ask your child to tell you about insects.

REMINDER:  There is no school Wednesday!

We had a great day today!  I am so excited to be working with such a terrific group of students.  We went over the Four R’s in each area of the school.  As a group, we are developing the expectations for our classroom.  Please remember to send a note if your child’s schedule in the afternoon changes.  Have a great night!
